The son of the late blues legend Luther Allison, Bernard Allison has fast carved a niche as one of the leaders in the new generation of blues, and is already a star in Europe following a decade of living and touring on the continent. Storms Of Life opens with the instrumental "Slip Slidin'" which presents proof that Bernard is a formidable six-string master.

The album offers infusions of funk, reggae, rock and a variety of blues styles. Along with his own originals, Allison culls songs from fellow guitar talents like Mark Knopfler, Johnny Winter, Billy Gibbons and Anders Osborne, as well as two from his father. In making the album, Allison turned to noted producer David Z, known for his work with bluesmen Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang and Chris Duarte as well as Fine Young Cannibals, Big Head Todd & the Monsters and Jody Watley. The results prove that the roots of blues music support an idiom that is still very much alive, and continuing to grow and evolve. Allison, who was born in Chicago surrounded by the blues, became smitten with music when he attended his father's legendary performance at the Ann Arbor Blues Festival. At 10, he picked up the guitar using Luther's classic Love Me Mama album as a primer. Influenced not only by Luther but by eclectic artists such as Sly & the Family Stone, Grand Funk Railroad and gospel, he set upon finding his own voice. Before he was out of high school, he had signed on as guitarist for Koko Taylor. His first album, Next Generation, was released in 1993 at a time in which Bernard made his home in Europe - also the long-time home base of his father. Bernard returned to the U.S. in 1997, and signed with Tone-Cool Records (also the home of Susan Tedeschi, the North Mississippi All Stars and Double Trouble, distributed by Artemis Records.) The first album under this arrangement, Across The Water, met with enthusiastic reaction from press, including from Billboard magazine which wrote, "Although he plays with the power and majesty of his father, Allison stands in nobody's shadow. [He] will certainly have an impact on the modern blues idiom."
