Written and recorded on the spot at the Spacejunk Studios, Sydney, Forget Yourself, the band’s 17th album, has a different energy to previous church releases, which, explains Tim Powles, “may be the result of being set up ‘casually’ in a very relaxed studio. Most of this album is a ‘live’ four piece with minimal overdubs. The jams that didn’t fall naturally into ‘song’ style order, we cut into chunks and reassembled, preserving all the bangs, crashes and accidents in tact.” From the clunk and groove of “sealine” to the dark exotica of “nothing seeker”, Forget Yourself is the stunning testimony of a band in the full flush of invention, and a dynamic expression of contemporary rock.
