Billy Bragg & Wilco release Man In The Sand on DVD through Cooking Vinyl on Monday December 2nd. Man In The Sand is a documentary of the making of the Grammy-nominated Mermaid Avenue albums.

Originally screened by the BBC in February 1999, the film was shot over two years and follows Billy's search for the spirit of Woody Guthrie in Oklahoma, New York and the Texas Panhandle. The film is narrated by Woody's daughter Nora, who allowed Bragg access to her father's archive of unpublished works. Bragg then proceded to write tunes for the lost lyrics.

Billy is seen working on demos at home before flying to Chicago to link up with Wilco. The camera then follows the bards to Dublin for the recording of the album. We also see Bragg travel to Boston to record two songs with Natalie Merchant.

Man In The Sand offers an insight into a unique recording project as Billy and his cohorts breathe life into Woody Guthrie's fifty year old words. Songs included in the documentary: Way Over Yonder In The Minor Key / California Stars / This Land Is Your Land / Pastures of Plenty / I Ain't Got No Home / Here Comes The Train / Ingrid Bergman / Ideology / Between The Wars / She Came Along To Me / Go Down To The Water / Feed Of Man / Birds And Ships / All You Facists / When The Roses Bloom Again / The Unwelcome Guest / I Was Born / At My Window Sad And Lonely / Another Man's Done Gone and Hoodoo Voodoo.

The DVD also includes five bonus audio tracks of Billy's own solo demo versions: Birds And Ships, She Came Along To Me, I Guess I Planted, Eisler On The Go and Unwelcome Guest. The DVD is presented on widescreen format.
